MISSION

Our mission is to provide a community-wide approach to the prevention of family violence through a coordinated effort

among all agencies, local governments, departments, groups and courts. The Coalition shall promote education,

prevention and intervention to improve the community response to family violence.

HISTORY

The Community Coalition on Family Violence (CCFV), located in Knox County, TN, evolved from the Knox County Task Force

Against Domestic Violence, which was started in 1985. The Task Force promoted communication between agencies, as well

as provided services and advocacy for victims of domestic violence. A primary activity was to assist victims seeking Orders of

Protection through the court system.

In 1997, the Domestic Violence Task Force joined with business and community leaders to form the Community Coalition on

Family Violence. This expanded the reach of the Task Force and its members to embrace all entities of the community. A 24-Hour

HELPLINE, which serves Knox County and the surrounding areas, was established in October of 1998 and provides information

and referrals for Domestic Violence issues. The executive director was hired in April 2001 through collaborative partnership with

three hospitals: St. Mary’s Foundation, Covenant Health, and Baptist Hospital Foundation.

CCFV initiatives include: The creation, development, and maintenance of the Family Justice Center; the Clergy Task Force;

Hand are Not for Hitting, which is a project of the American Medical Alliance Association taught in all Knox County Schools; training

medical providers how to screen, question, and provide assistance to those victim to domestic violence; providing D-Visa (Dating

Violence Is A Crime) cards to middle school students; and passing out local, regional, and TLBQ Safety Cards.

Through these initiative the CCFV hope to raise awareness and prevent all forms of domestic violence.
